YUGIOH (duel monsters edition) PROPAGANDA TIME
so this isn't the only yugioh in the world. but it's the one you remember, more than likely. it is the most batshit show i have EVER witnessed.
based upon the manga of the same name, yugioh duel monsters is about a five foot nothing punk guy named yugi who is sharing a body with an ancient egyptian pharaoh. even better: the ancient pharaoh and that guy? they're lowkey in love.
the rival is a six foot tall ceo who could easily bench press yugi if he wants to. instead, he is so hyperfixated on this cardgame that he a) turns an entire weapons company into a GAMER COMPANY and b) will only consider beating yugi a real W if he does it through this card game.
for four seasons, they fixate on the card game until the fifth season, where it randomly becomes about ancient egypt because that's what happened in the manga. and the manga, at the time, was being written by a man high on painkillers so the anime as a result makes zero sense
oh and also kt, the guy who wrote it? he died saving two kids and his legacy is the most popular card game in the entire world and the most iconic anime to ever grace saturday morning television.
Fubuki Tenjoin is definitely a yugioh character and you can tell because of the frequency with which he willingly puts on and allows himself to be temporarily possessed by the evil cursed artifact that stole entire years of his life.

its been a year with kazuki takahashi. he left behind an incredible legacy of an amazing manga, several anime spin offs, and one of the most famous card games in the world. and if it wasn’t for his work, i would’ve never met my fianceé. i might not have ever started streaming. i wouldn’t have met some of my dearest friends. i wouldn’t have written some of my best work.
his work touches our lives daily. the abridged is why i met some of my dearest friends. i got into yugioh content during the pandemic and it held my sanity together. the bonds with our friends, our loved ones… takahashi’s influence continues to reach us. rest in peace, kazuki takahashi.
